Coal accounts for 50% of Russia’s export cargo traffic


Russian Railways (RZD) reported that shipping volumes to seaports via its networks increased by 4.6% between January and April 2019. The tonnage rose to over 106.8 million t, due to an 11.9% increase in coal shipments, a 5.4% increase in oil and a 21.3% increase in ore.

 

Some 48.3% of the export cargo traffic was coal, oil accounted for 27.5%, ferrous metals for 7.4% and fertiliser for 6.2%.

 

In the four month period, cargo handling at northwestern ports exceeded 43.6 million t, +1.4% compared to the same period in 2018. About 26.1 million t (+3.8%) was shipped to southern ports. Shipments to ports in the Far East amounted to more than 34.3 million t (+8.2%). (ben)
