CMA CGM's second strike in Lebanon
Marseille-headquartered CMA CGM Group recently won the bid for the concession of the Beirut Port container terminal, which involves the management, operation and maintenance of the facility for a ten-year period starting in March 2022.
The French liner already accounts for approximately 55% of the container terminal’s volumes, doing nine weekly calls and handling transhipment operations there.
A USD 33 million investment will be made in the container terminal of Beirut Port, including USD 19 million over the first two years. This transaction is the second deal after the full acquisition of the container terminal inside the port of Tripoli back in 2021. Tripoli is Lebanon’s second largest commercial port. The CMA CGM Group was founded in Lebanon 43 years ago. (sh)
