CM Port keeps the pace in 2022
The Hong Kong-based China Merchants Port has reported its results for the full year 2021. In total, the company's ports handled 135 million teu, a rise of 12% compared to 2020. Total dry and bulk cargo throughput was at 567 million t, a growth of 38% year-over-year.
Both the company's domestic and overseas ports maintained stable operations during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, yet the recent shutdown of the ports of Shenzhen and Shanghai has taken its toll.
Wang Xiufeng, CEO of China Merchants Port, said that the company does not expect a rapid improvement of the shortage of containers and the congestion at ports worldwide. At the beginning of 2022, container throughput in the Yangtze River Delta region remained on a high level and the overseas terminals also continued their upward trend. (sh)
