Cleverly combined for sustainable transport

For two years now DB Cargo BTT has been transporting tank containers with methylene diphenyl isocyanate from Germany to Poland on a daily basis for Covestro. This concept has now been further optimised.

For the first mile, trucks fuelled with biofuel now transport the chemicals in tank containers from the production sites to a nearby transhipment terminal in Germany. The long leg from Germany to Poland is carried out by rail. Last-mile delivery is carried out on-demand and just-in-time, again using biofuel-powered lorries.

Overall, this linking of transport modes makes it possible to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 70% compared to conventional trips by lorry using fossil diesel, DB Cargo BTT said. (ben)
