CJ Logistics tests autonomous parcel trucking
The project will test an 11 t autonomous truck loaded with actual parcels travelling six times a week on a 218 km truck route from CJ Logistics’ Incheon Center to the Okcheon Hub Terminal in South Korea. Conducted in partnership with the start-up Mars Auto, the pilot began in late March and will run for roughly a year.
The partners aim to improve the efficacy of autonomous driving before its future full implementation. About 93% of the driving distance is on highways.
CJ Logistics’ autonomous driving truck will operate manually in urban areas and switch to autonomous driving on the highway. A driver will be on board in case of emergency to take the wheel if necessary. (ben)
