Christening the new king of capacity
Most of the general managers concerned held speeches welcoming the first ship of the 24,116 teu ultra-large containership series at a christening ceremony which was held on 9 March 2023. Other representatives signed the delivery document.
This vessel was built by Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co and Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The ship is 399.99 m long, 61.5 m wide and features a deck area equivalent to almost four standard football fields. This means that the ship is 60 m longer than the world’s largest aircraft carrier currently in service.
"MSC Tessa" has a capacity of 24,000 teu and can carry 240,000 t of cargo. It is designed for an eco-friendly deployment meeting the criteria of high efficiency, energy savings, economy, and compliance with stringent safety standards. (Ih)
