Chinese trucks pilot TIR route

A convoy the three Chinese TIR trucks recently explored long-distance international road haulage options along the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor.

The trucks departed in Zhengzhou and Urumqi in China and entered Kazakhstan at the Khorgos-Nur Zholy border. After crossing the Caspian Sea by ferry, the trucks reached their destinations in Azerbaijan and Georgia after a 6,600 km journey in two weeks.

This is the first time that Chinese trucking companies have taken this route using the TIR system, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) said. The TIR system connects China with over 30 countries in Eurasia, offering more secure transport options that are over 80% faster and 50% cheaper. (ben)
