Chinese support Erdenet to Ovoot intermodal project
Northern Railways in Mongolia, part of Aspire Mining, has signed an engineering, procurement and construction agreement for the Erdenet to Ovoot railway with the JV of China Gezhouba International Engineering and China Railway 20 Bureau Group.
The Erdenet to Ovoot railway extends over 547 km connecting northern Mongolia to China and international markets. The line will play an important part in the establishment of the northern rail corridor through Mongolia.
Furthermore, China Gezhouba group has provided a letter of interest in being the EPC contractor to build the Erdenet to Ovoot haul road. The road will be able to deliver up to 4 million t per year of coking coal to the nearest rail head at Erdenet, where the coal can be carried by rail northwards or southwards to export markets, according to Aspire.
