China launches intermodal rail-sea service
The first train departed on Monday, 15 January, from Yinchuan in China's autonomous region Ningxia Hui and is now heading for the port of Qingdao in the east of the country. It marks the launch of a regular railway route for an intermodal rail-sea train, which needs to go through customs clearance only once.
The train will run from Yinchuan to Qingdao Port twice a week, with each trip lasting over 34 hours, the Chinese state-owned information office said.
The maiden train is carrying containers loaded with goods including polyvinyl chloride, spandex, and dicyandiamide. From Qingdao the containers will be shipped to countries including Colombia, France, and India, as well as Guangdong Province and Fujian Province in China. (ben)
