China-Europe railfreight profits from Covid-19 crisis
China-Europe freight trains have taken on part of the transportation of goods formerly shipped by air and sea, fuelling growth despite the overall downward trend amid the Covid-19 epidemic.
The number of China-Europe freight trains crossing the inland port of Alashankou in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region continued to rise in Q1/2020, according to the Chinese state-owned information service.
A total of 1,211 China-Europe cargo trains were supervised by the customs authorities in Alashankou, up 28.28% compared to Q1 2019. These trains transported 109,064 teu of goods overall. In April, the number of China-Europe freight trains crossing Alashankou even set a new record, rising 56.13% to 420. (ben)
