China - Europe: rail takes the lead
The accident of the freighter "Ever Given" in the Suez Canal also posed delivery problems for the Fressnapf Group, which specialises in pet supplies.
The company reacted quickly and for the first time dispatched a 42-container-long train from the Chinese province of Linyi to its import warehouse in the port of Duisburg in Germany by rail. The new block train was initiated by the Duisport Group, with Far East Land Bridge (FELB) assisting as operator. The costs were in the six-figure euro range.
The train was on the road for 24 days, was completely reloaded twice and passed through China, Russia, Belarus, Poland and finally Germany on its journey. Conclusion: the rail route saved 75% of CO2 compared to the sea route. (ben)
