Chilean rail logistician modernising loco fleet

Transap in Chile is investing in fleet renewal and to this end has ordered four C30ACi locomotives from the US manufacturer Wabtec. The investment is required due to growing business and is in line with Transap’s strategy to offer more efficient, safe and sustainable railway services.

The new C30ACi units are the first AC-traction locomotives to join Transap’s fleet. The company will use the engines to transport Arauco’s forestry freight in Chile. The C30ACi is designed for higher pulling capacity and incorporates all AC technology for heavy-haul operations.

The engines can carry out the work of two DC locomotives and can also operate in sharp curves and tight clearances. Wabtec is expected to deliver the new locomotives in 2026. (ben)
