Chep, Kimberly-Clark and Smart Way cooperate

Trucks that carry Kimberly-Clark’s hygiene products and toiletries from Czechia to Great Britain are now loaded with re-usable Chep pallets to take them back to Czechia. On average, Kimberly-Clark and Chep share three trucks per day. As an operative link between the two companies, Smart Way Logistics, the 4PL1 brand of Van der Wal, coordinates traffic flows to avoid empty runs and downtimes.

As a result, the road hauliers can increase their productivity while empty vehicle kilometres are shortened by at least 10%. The cooperation between the three companies reduces CO2 emissions by about 70,000 kg per year, significantly lowers the number of empty runs and, finally, substantially decreases freight costs for Kimberley-Clark und Chep. It serves as an example for other companies of the FMCG industry and shows that sharing truck loads can have a positive impact on the environment. (mw)
