Changing port congestion trends
Supporting logistics professionals to manage disruption, such as intensified port congestions in 2024, Beacon, a supply chain visibility platform backed by Maersk, now reveals both improvements and persistent challenges worldwide.
In Beacon’s latest ‘Port Congestion & Performance Report’, Oceania led as the most efficient region, while Chittagong recorded the longest anchorage waiting time – at nearly 69 hours, overtaking Savannah, which improved by 43%.
Sub-Saharan Africa saw the longest berth turnaround (2.5 days) and highest container dwell time (161 hours), despite progress.
Shanghai topped ship counts at anchorage (62), while Hong Kong saw an 88% drop. Efficient ports included Djibouti, Seattle/Tacoma, Busan and King Abdullah. (ah)
