Challenging seas for Finnlines
Finnlines reported a revenue of EUR 513.2 million for January-September 2023, 8% down from 2022. The result for the period was EUR 56.9 million, with ebitda at EUR 131.7 million. The economic outlook within the EU is challenging, with minimal growth expected.
Despite a decline in Finland’s export-import volumes impacting Finnlines' cargo operations, passenger volumes showed a positive trend, and the company’s market share was maintained.
Finnlines has introduced eco-friendly vessels, including the Superstar class “Finnsirius”, enhancing the Baltic Sea ro-pax service. Finnlines continues to invest in sustainable technologies as the EU prepares to extend its emissions trading scheme to maritime transport in 2024.
The near-completion of Finnlines’ EUR 500-million green newbuilding investment programme underscores its commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency. (pb)
