Cargo volumes up in Singapore

A total of 1.99 million t of airfreight throughput was handled at Singapore Changi airport in 2024, surpassing 2023’s level by 14.6%. Growth was seen across all cargo categories – exports, imports and transhipments, driven by major improvements in flows between Singapore and China, and the former and the USA.

On top of this the recovery of Singapore’s electronics exports and re-exports, strong global demand for cross-border e-commerce shipments and the modal shift from ocean to airfreight also contributed. The hub’s top five air cargo markets were China, Australia, the USA, Hong Kong and India.

Changi airport welcomed two new freighter airlines in 2024 – Shandong Airlines, which also resumed passenger services during the year, and Air Incheon. Two new freighter links were added, connecting Singapore to Haikou and Nagoya. (ah)
