Cargo volumes rise for the third year in a row
Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR), which recently welcomed Air India's first commercial flight on an A350, processed a total of 422,644 t of cargo in 2023 (+2% compared to 2022). Domestic freight traffic soared by 11%, testifying to BLR’s growing importance as a cargo hub over the past few years. In July, BLR Cargo handled the highest monthly domestic tonnage since the airport opened 15 years ago (16,507 t).
Oman Airlines commenced freighter operations in 2023, further diversifying South India's global connectivity. Perishables continued to be a key focus, with coriander exports surging by 67%. The export of mangoes reached a three-year tonnage record (+124%). 684 t of mangoes were exported, posting an 86% increase in the number of pieces shipped. (ah)
