Cargo theft in EMEA at new peak
According to the latest statistics of the Transported Asset Protection Association’s (Tapa), product thefts from supply chains in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in 2020 amounted to losses of more than EUR 172 million. These incidents occurred despite most of the region being in lockdown.
In its cargo theft annual report, Tapa EMEA recorded more than 6,450 new cargo thefts in a record number of 56 countries in the region, and an average loss for every day of 2020 of more than EUR 470,000.
These high numbers, however, are estimated to be only a fraction of the actual figures, Tapa EMEA believes. The total loss for 2020 is calculated according to those 65.1% of reports to Tapa EMEA’s statistics that shared financial data.
"While some criminal operations would have been disrupted by lockdown measures, 2020 still saw the second-highest rate of incidents in Tapa’s 24-year history," said Thorsten Neumann, pPresident & CEO of Tapa EMEA. (sh)
