Cargo Sous Terrain breaking ground
In Switzerland, the earthworks on the Cargo Sous Terrain (CST) logistics system, which is designed for underground transport and financed by the private sector, have begun. Test drillings and measurements are underway for planning the first section from Härkingen to Zurich.
The aim of the logistics system is to take pressure off the country’s transport networks. The first sections are scheduled to go into operation in 2031.
The current work is a precondition for approval by the federal government and the cantons. The tunnel-related operations and exploratory drillings go to a depth of 100 m and more. The detailed route will then be determined as part of the upcoming sectoral and structure plan procedures. (sh)
