Cargo plane crash near Mogadishu


A DHC-5D Buffalo cargo aircraft operated by the Kenyan airline Trident Aviation crashed 24 km southwest of Mogadishu on 22 March while en route from Dhobley (DHY) to Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ). The aircraft, registered 5Y-RBA, was flying on behalf of a logistics service when it went down during the en route phase. All five people on board lost their lives.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) confirmed the incident and stated that the aircraft was completely destroyed. The crash occurred near the Jazeera coastline. No other fatalities were reported.

Authorities and search and rescue teams were dispatched to the site shortly after the crash. The aircraft was performing a cargo flight at the time of the accident. Investigations are underway, though current details are based solely on initial reports and unofficial sources. (ah)
