Cargo outperforms PAX operations
In March, Finnair's passenger traffic figures declined by 3.6%, while cargo figures continued to improve. Total cargo tonnes increased by 8.6% year-on-year, reaching 12,295 t, due to increased Asian (6,761 t, +12.6%) and European (2,189 t, +26.8%) capacity, while North Atlantic tonnage shrank by 22.7% to 1,054 t. Overall, from January to March 2024, Finnair carried 34,311 t of cargo, 11.9% more than in 2023.
More than half of the volume (19,187 t, +17.6%) was transported on the Asian trade route, 5,895 t (+35.9%) within Europe, 5,965 t (+1.1%) between Finland and the Middle East, and 3,79 t (-20.9%) in exchange with North America. Revenue cargo tonne kilometres increased by 9.2% in March, and by 11.6% in the first three months of this year. (ah)
