Cargo link between Northwest and Northeast
Pittsburgh airport (PIT) in Pennsylvania is expected to sign an agreement to expand its collaboration with another airport – 4,000 miles away in Alaska.
The agreement, with Anchorage airport (ANC), aims to boost sales and marketing efforts at both airports, with a particular emphasis on cargo. Not carrying any cost, it could include cooperative marketing, exploring operational efficiencies as well as sharing knowledge and expertise.
Serving 28 widebody air cargo carriers, ANC ranked as the sixth busiest cargo airport in the world last year, handling more than 2.7 million t of cargo. Bryan Dietz, PIT VP of air service development: "It makes sense for us to partner with one of the busiest cargo airports in the world as we continue to sell PIT as a convenient – and speedy – cargo destination."
