Carbon-neutral block train en route to China
A 41-wagon block train set off on Monday, 16 November 2021 on a three-week journey from Dunajska Strada Slovakia to Xi’an China on the New Silk Road. It is Gefco’s first carbon-neutral train. The company will offset the 250 t of CO2 generated from this door-to-door service by investing in Gold Standard certified projects.
The train travels from Slovakia to Brest-Małaszewicze at the Polish-Belorussian border, where the goods will be transferred from European to Russian rail wagons to adapt to the 1,520 mm rail gauge.
Then the block train will continue its journey through Belarus and Russia and arrive at Alashankou-Dostyk in Kazakhstan on the border with Xinjiang, the port of entry into China. There, the goods will be loaded onto Chinese wagons before their final delivery to Xi’an. (ben)
