Carbon-free railfreight in Germany and Austria
Together with its logistics partner Deutsche Bahn, Mercedes-Benz Cars has now reached a new milestone in its inbound logistics: its rail transport of vehicle components will now be CO₂-free. This applies to the Mercedes-Benz plants in Germany as well as the plant in Kecskemét, Hungary.
Hence, rail transport will take over 270 truckloads a day that no longer require road haulage. The green energy that the company uses for its rail shipments in Germany and Austria comes solely from domestic renewable energy sources, Mercedes said. A majority of this eco-friendly fuel is currently produced at hydroelectric power stations. (ben)
