Carbon-free power for locos on last mile

More biofuels: the German railfreight company DB Cargo is planning to power even its heavy shunting and diesel locomotives with HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil). With HVO, the locomotives can also run carbon-free on the last mile and without any reduction in performance, as tests have shown.

DB Cargo currently generates around 95% of its traction power electrically. The remaining power is provided when shunting, in terminals and ports, or when delivering freight wagons to DB Cargo customers' factory premises.

With HVO fuel, the company will now have an almost completely CO2-free solution for shunting services with freight trains weighing up to 3,000 t. (ben)
