Car trains to link Germany and Turkey
BLG Logistics recently launched a pilot project in which each train comprises 19 car transport wagons and can transport 190 to 228 cars. The rail service connects the BLG Auto Terminal in Kelheim, Germany, with the Köseköy logistics centre near Istanbul.
Taking five to six days, the train travels through Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria then through the 13.6 km r long Marmaray Tunnel, which links the Asian part of Turkey with Europe. For a long time, the tunnel was only open to passenger traffic. Now, freight trains are also permitted to pass between one and four o'clock at night. The trial will last until the end of the year.
