Cannabis faster out of Zimbabwe?

With Fruit Logistica opening its doors in Berlin this week, the landlocked Southern African country Zimbabwe is discussing whether to accelerate the granting of export licences for cannabis.

Government sources pointed out that legal marijuana has started gaining traction worldwide. Exporting the plant would therefore bring in much-needed foreign currency.

According to Grand View Research, the global legal marijuana market is expected to reach USD 146.4 billion by the end of 2025. Last April, Zimbabwe became the second African country after Lesotho to legalise marijuana for medical and scientific purposes.

South Africa, Argentina and Australia have legalised the use of cannabis for medical applications, while Canada legalised it for recreational use as well. (ah)
