Canadian Post prepares for the storm
A recent survey commissioned by Canada Post showed that 48% of Canadian shoppers plan on spending mostly or exclusively online this coming holiday. As well, 54% were open to begin shopping earlier than usual.
To be prepared, Canada Post will employ more than 4,000 temporary seasonal employees, increase its fleet by more than 1,000 vehicles and add key equipment. Opening more parcel pickup locations and deploying process equipment at key locations in its network is part of the strategy.
Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of CAD 378 million (USD 288 million) in the second quarter of 2020. This increased loss was largely due to the significant impact of Covid-19 combined with the added costs of new collective agreements with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). (sh)
