Canadian airport prepares for more cargo
Edmonton International Airport (EIA), which handled 46,000 t of cargo in 2020 (+7.5%), will receive a major upgrade of its cargo operations area, improving transportation capacity for exports and imports to the Canadian province of Alberta.
The Canadian government has announced a CAD 18 million (EUR 11.7 million) grant under the national trades corridor fund to support a CAD 36 million expansion of cargo operations (the other half of the funding is contributed by EIA).
This project will extend the cargo-area apron and install a new hydrant fuelling system specific for cargo refuelling needs, replacing the truck-based fuelling system and increasing safety. Finally, the airport’s "fresh cargo centre", the cold-storage area, will be expanded to speed up cargo movement. (ah)
