Call for urgent action to cap fuel prices
Global oil prices, reaching their highest level since 2008 this week, are set to climb even higher amid continuing instability and sanctions related to the Ukraine crisis, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) anticipates.
The organisation now calls for urgent government action on rising fuel prices for commercial road haulage to avert a wider economic crisis. Commercial transport operators in all regions are feeling the impact of soaring fuel prices.
IRU is therefore calling to cap fuel prices for commercial road transport and reduce or rebate taxes and excise on fuel for commercial operators. Average diesel prices across the 51 countries in all regions have risen by 33% over the past twelve months, IRU said. (ben)
