Bundeswehr's logistics in new hands
On 25 March 2021, lieutenant general Martin Schelleis, inspector of the Armed Forces Base, handed over command of the German Bundeswehr’s Logistics Command from major general Volker Thomas, who had held this command since January 2016, to brigadier general Gerald Funke. Because of the corona pandemic, the handover took place in a smaller setting and without guests.
Thomas looks back on 43 years of service in national and international highest command authorities and in ISAF international security assistance force operations.
Funke was already deputy commander of the Logistics Command from 2015 to 2016. Most recently, he headed the subdivision for control of strategic planning in the federal ministry of defence.
In his new position, he is responsible for approximately 17,000 soldiers as well as civilian employees, and as General Bundeswehr Logistics, for the further development of the Bundeswehr's logistics system. (amh)
