Bulgarian ports gain an ally
Hapag-Lloyd, a global logistics company, recently inaugurated new offices in Bulgaria - specifically in the port city of Varna and the capital, Sofia. This expansion leverages Bulgaria's strategic position in the Balkans and its growing economy, which has seen significant development in various sectors, including energy, mining, engineering, agriculture and tourism.
These sectors have contributed to a strong GDP growth, expected to stay around 3.5% in 2023 and 2024. Bulgaria's strategic importance in Southeast Europe is underscored by its two major ports and efficient hinterland connections via road and rail.
Capitalising on this potential, Hapag-Lloyd operates three weekly calls connecting the Bulgarian ports of Burgas and Varna with key locations in the Middle East, the USA, intra-Europe and Asia. Additionally, it covers Central and Eastern European countries through the pan-European Rhine-Danube corridor using truck and train services. This move demonstrates Hapag-Lloyd's commitment to enhancing its service offering in the Black Sea region and the Balkans. (pb)
