Building a new gateway in Northern Norway
Last week, agreements were signed for the construction of the new airport of Bodø, just north of the Arctic circle, and ground was broken shortly thereafter.
Abraham Foss, CEO of the Norwegian airport operator Avinor, is looking forward to the undertaking which is scheduled to see the new airport open its doors in 2029: "We’re highly motivated to work together with our partners at the municipality of Bodø and in the Norwegian Armed Forces to build an airport that will become a hub for traffic into and out of the region."
The new Bodø airport will be located around 900 m to the south of the present airport (BOO) which will remain operational until the day before the new airport opens for operations. It handled 1,703 t of air freight and mail last year, 36% less than in 2021. (ah)
