Building a dedicated agro airport in Nigeria
Kayode Fayemi, governor of the mainly agrarian landlocked Nigerian state Ekiti, has handed over the site of the "Ekiti Agro-Allied Cargo Airport" to the main contractor, CCECC Nigeria, to commence the construction of its 3.2 km runway.
Describing this as a "milestone for the current administration and the people of Ekiti", he emphasised the special importance of an agro-allied cargo airport for the transport of agricultural products to international markets.
The Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) entered the Nigerian market in 1981. CCECC deputy managing director Han Shuang: "Up to now, the company has launched businesses in 29 states across Nigeria, covering railways, airports, highways, bridges, municipal projects, housing projects, water projects, and so on."
