Bright future forecast for road haulage
In spite of the predicted slowdown in economic growth, the German federal office for freight transport (BAG) expects the steady increase in freight traffic to continue until 2021. For the current year, the BAG predicts a 0.9% rise in freight volumes and a 1.2% growth in transport services.
For 2020 and 2021, the office believes that volumes will grow by 1.7% and 1.3%, respectively. Above average increases in road haulage and intermodal traffic are expected to be offset by a comparatively more moderate development of cargo volumes in the inland shipping, air freight and railfreight segments.
