Bright future beckons for Scottish airport
Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) welcomed a new twice-weekly B747F service from the British Cargologicair, connecting Scotland with Houston and Frankfurt. Each service offers 110 tonnes of freight capacity, giving a welcome boost to the regional oil and gas, aerospace and other manufacturing and production industries.
Meanwhile, the airport’s joint bid to become Scotland’s Heathrow logistics hub took a major step forward after securing a place on the shortlist of nationwide potential sites – in the running to deliver Britain’s largest infrastructure project.
A partnership between PIK, ABP ports and South Ayrshire council, the Ayrshire logistics hub, is in contention to become one of four UK-wide off-site construction centres. The proposition will be announced early 2020, ahead of work commencing in 2021. (ah)
