Brexit curbs road haulage capacity

Because of Brexit, road haulage capacities available on the European spot market are falling substantially amid rising prices. According to the current Transport Market Monitor, the corridor between France and the UK is reporting a particularly large loss of transport capacities, while prices continue to increase.

In this area, road haulage capacity in December 2020 fell to 58.5 index points, a two-year low and a substantial decline (–34%) compared to the previous month.

Over the same period, spot market prices soared to a two-year high of 154.3 index points. Transport prices and capacities on the routes between Germany and UK are showing a similar trend. (ben)
