Bremenports renovates lock

The renovation of the Kaiserschleuse lock near Bremen (Germany) is now underway. Vessels can still enter the Kaiserhafen port via the swing bridge. At the end of June, the outer head gate will be drained so that new rail tracks can be installed over the following weeks.

Prior to the start of the innovation, there were close consultations between the consortium that built the lock and bremenports, and the parties agreed upon a package of measures to guarantee the smooth operation of the locks in the long term.

In addition to the installation of new rail tracks made from an especially hard and resistant alloy, the upgrade is intended to ensure a more balanced distribution of the loads on the undercarriages and an improved ballasting system for the lock gate. The works on the outer head gate are scheduled to be completed by the end of September. (kd)
