Bremenports: H1/2020 better than expected
Bremen’s port throughput in Q1/2020 showed a less severe decline than had been feared at the beginning of the pandemic. All in all, total throughput from January to June 2020 amounted to 34.5 million t, 4.3% down from the same period last year.
Bremerhaven was however able to increase its seaborne cargo volumes slightly by 0.8%, despite the challenging environment.
In H1/2020, container throughput reached 2.3 million teu, which is 4.8% below H1/2019 levels. The automobile segment was hard hit, with only 695,000 cars handled (-36.3%).
While total bulk throughput dropped by 18.2% to 3.9 million t, liquid bulk volumes rose by 6.8% to 1.07 million t, and transhipments of grain and animal food increased by 8.8% to 271,000 t. (mw)
