Bremenports continues upbeat performance
Throughput volumes in the Bremen ports rose again in Q3/2021. Container throughput over the first nine months of the year totalled 3.8 million teu, up 10.2% from the same period in 2020. Total throughput at the quays in Bremen and Bremerhaven grew to 52 million t by the end of September 2021, an increase of 7.5% compared to the same period in 2020.
The ports handled 45 million t of breakbulk and 7 million t of bulk cargo. Vehicle throughput also rose by 10.3% to 1.3 million cars handled through Bremen.
Bremen's senator for science and ports Claudia Schilling is aware that 2019's total result (4.9 million teu, 69 million t and 2.2 million vehicles) is the benchmark: "We must continue to work hard to make our ports more competitive." (sh)
