Bremen criticises terminal operators

The Bremische Hafenvertretung (BHV), which represents logistics, port and transport companies from Bremen and Bremerhaven, has expressed its concerns about a possible cooperation between terminal operators Eurokai and BLG Logistics Group in the container business. BHV demands a transparent discussion of the issue.

Apparently, there have already been some preliminary political talks with federal state governments concerning the possibility of HHLA acquiring a stake in Eurogate.

"Such a merger into a “Deutsche Bucht AG“ (“German Bay corporation”) could have a substantial impact on the three German container ports in Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven,“ says Christoph Bruns, member of the board at BHV.

BHV particularly wants to know whether BLG will retain its 50% share in Eurogate, limiting the change of ownership to the Hamburg side, or whether shares that BLG holds in Eurogate will be transferred to HHLA. If the Hamburg-based companies increase their influence, the Bremen ports fear competitive disadvantages. (mw)
