Boxes keep coming at Oakland
The Port of Oakland witnessed a significant increase in loaded container throughput in July 2023, reaching the highest level since October 2022. Full twenty-foot container equivalents grew by 16.8% compared to July 2022, with imports rising by 12.5% and exports by 23.1%.
However, July 2022 volumes were unusually low. Despite the export spike, the July 2023 volume remains lower than the year-to-date monthly average.
Vessel calls are increasing while berthing time has decreased, suggesting improved cargo flow and recovery from pandemic-related congestion. (pb)
