Box margins back to normal?
In its analysis, Container X Change has concluded that the excess of empty boxes in container depots in the USA represents another challenge for global supply chains. According to this data, container prices have been declining by approximately 30% over the past two months n both the east and the west coasts of the United States and have more than halved at some ports from 2021 prices.
Christian Roeloffs, co-founder and CEO of Container X Change, explained the paradox. “We believe that container availability will improve worldwide once we see depots overflowing (this is what we expect in the mid-term, once disruptions ease up a little), container turnaround times becoming faster and shorter again, and container fleet utilisation (the number of trips that containers can take on average in a year) increasing again.” (sh)
