Boring of Cortanovci tunnel in Serbia completed
Russian Railways (RZD) broke through the right-hand Cortanovci tunnel in Serbia on 3 April 2020, thus fully completing the first phase of the 1,086 m tunnel.
It is located on a section of the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad line connecting three of the five largest cities in Serbia and is part of the Pan-European Corridor X between Austria and Greece with connection to Turkey and the New Silk Road.
The tunnel consists of two parallel single-track and is scheduled to be commissioned in November 2021. Russian Railways International is also building another large-scale facility at Cortanovci, a two-track railway viaduct nearly 3 km long across the River Danube. (ben)
