Boosting mineral transport by rail along Mt Isa line
The Australian Government in Queensland has approved AUD 380 million to maintain and improve Mt-Isa -Townsville rail corridor and has granted AUD 20 million a year to reduce rail access charges on this line, starting 1 July 2019.
These funds will boost mineral export transport by rail and support the shift from road to rail. Aurizon has welcomed the Government’s decisions. The Australian railfreight company transports minerals, industrial products and livestock for customers on the Townsville to Mount Isa rail corridor.
Its customers pay rail access charges to use the track which are substantially higher than what trucks pay to use fort the Mt Isa highway. (ben)
