Bolstering the cold chain in the Middle East
Construction has started on a USD 35 million cold storage hub at the Port of Jebel Ali, Dubai, to be run by Americold Realty Trust’s local joint venture.
Americold and DP World are working together as RSA Cold Chain to connect multi-temperature services to logistics solutions. The venture has been expanding in Dubai since March 2023, when Americold made an investment to enter Middle Eastern and Indian markets.
An existing Dubai South hub is currently being doubled while the DP World port’s capacity will triple to 70,000 pallet positions.
The development at Jebel Ali Free Zone will feature 40,000 pallet positions. With its temperature-controlled storage capacities, it can be used for perishable goods, which will build a market presence for both involved parties in the Dubai and wider Gulf regions. Construction will begin this year with completion set for the first quarter of 2025. (mk)
