Boeing completes first B777X flight
The new Boeing 777X took to the skies on 25 January 2020, entering the next phase of its test programme. Based on the B777 and with proven technologies from the B787 Dreamliner, the B777X took off at Paine Field in Everett (PAE) for a three hour, 51 minute flight over Washington State before landing at Seattle's Boeing Field (BFI).
The newest member of Boeing's widebody family will deliver 10% lower fuel use and emissions and 10% lower operating costs than the competition. Boeing expects to deliver the first 777X, which, in its -9 version, has a bellyhold capacity of 221 cbm, in 2021.
The programme has won 340 orders and commitments from carriers around the world, including ANA, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines. (ah)
