Blocktrain carries storm-damaged timber over Brenner

The Austrian Rail Cargo group (RCG) is operating a new timber train for the Pfeifer group between Trento (Italy) and Wörgl (Austria). To begin with, the blocktrain will run once a week, but the company plans to extend this service to two weekly round trips before the end of April.

The train will carry 16 wagons with about 1,000 t of round timber to Wörgl, where the logs will be processed in Pfeifer’s plant in Kundl (Tyrol). RCG has been transporting timber for the merchant for years and delivers 30 to 40 wagons per day, which amounts to almost half the required daily quantity.

With the new blocktrain, RCG will carry only logs that were felled by the gale on the northern side of the Alps in October last year. (ben)
