Bimco's response to shipping regulations
Bimco, the world's largest international shipping association, has responded to the increasing regulatory changes and the industry's commitment to decarbonization by introducing a new Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) Clause for Voyage Charter Parties.
This new clause, recently approved by Bimcos’s documentary committee, enhances their collection of carbon clauses. It complements the CII Operations Clause for Time Charter Parties adopted in 2022, aligning with the International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) CII regulation.
These clauses are designed to facilitate cooperation and provide clarity between shipowners and charterers as the industry evolves to meet new regulations and reduce emissions, focusing on course adjustments, speed reductions, and data sharing.
Bimco's ongoing efforts ensure that their contracts and clauses remain adaptable in a changing regulatory landscape. (pb)
