BGL: Tyrol’s anti-transit plan may infringe EU law
The Tyrolean government is planning to substantially tighten the sectoral truck driving ban on the most important north-south transit route through Austria. Goods that could be sent as railfreight were banned from using the Inn valley motorway in Tyrol four years ago.
The Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics and Disposal (BGL) in Germany is now concerned that a more stringent sectoral ban could contravene EU law.
The trade body says that such a move will blatantly contradict the presupposed condition that euro VI trucks are permanently excluded from such a ban. (ben)
